I'm not trying to protect yesterday
I’ve grown up alongside the internet. I’ve delivered across design, UX, engineering, SEO, performance, security, hosting, infrastructure, integrations. The list goes on. But it was never a career plan. I had problems to solve, so I went deeper.
One problem at a time.
But one problem at a time often unfurls multiple things you need to understand. Then you start to see patterns. And experience means you start to reapply knowledge because you can see even deeper patterns.
Standing still in agency, in technology, has rarely been an option. The constant is change, and when the change accelerates, it can be incredibly destabilising.
But it is also incredibly exciting.
Maybe I won’t have a human team in the future. Maybe I’ll be overseeing an agentic team. Maybe I’ll be overseeing the people who are overseeing agentic teams.
These are the skills I will need to develop to maintain my relevance.
Do I ever wake up in the middle of the night and worry about it? Yes, of course I do. But I’ve done that for the last 25 years — so, to be honest, AI hasn’t changed anything.
I’m not trying to protect yesterday. I’m trying to create tomorrow.
